Surfpaints Interview Series #8

Hi Elise, Welcome to the Surfpaints Interview Series! Lets kick things off by completing the following statement:

Can we start with finishing the below statementI paint because… It allows me to switch off from the world, connect on a different level with my surroundings, and express myself in a completely authentic way.

1. Can you introduce yourself? Age, location, occupation, surfing experience, anything relevant? My name is Elise Ottaway, I have done 32 laps around the sun, and I live in the beautiful Byron Bay. Despite growing up spending a lot of time in the ocean, I only started surfing about 6 years ago, but I have been hooked ever since (some may even say, addicted). These days you will find me catching sunrise waves almost every single day of the year.

2. When did you start painting surfboards? I started with my first custom board I got made almost 2 years ago, and have not stopped since. I paint new custom boards as well as turning old ruined boards into pieces of art - there is something so special about bringing the old back to life.

3. What do you find the hardest part about painting a surfboard? When painting the old run down surfboards, the cleaning up of the boards is not fun.

4. Where do you get your design inspiration from? Most of my designs are inspired by my local surrounds - the plants, people, landscapes and animals.

5. How did you prepare the surfboard before painting it with Surfpaints to ensure the paint bonded well? I ensure it is nice and clean and oil free, then once designed I coat it with some protective clear spray.

7. What is your favourite thing about Surfpaints paint pens and the brand itself? I love the community and ethos behind the brand and the way it celebrates a diversity of art and creativity.

8. One piece of advice you would like to give others about painting a surfboard for their first time? Have fun with it! Don't put pressure on yourself and just see what comes. Whatever it is, it will be a unique expression of you.

9. Anything else you would like to add? Just that I fully appreciate the opportunity to share my ever evolving journey of creativity. Thanks so much Dan Check out the super talented Elise on Instagram @elise.ottaway

How to transform your SurfboardOne of the best ways to grow your confidence painting surfboards is to hear from other people that have had a go.

SurfPaint encourages the everyday surfer of all ages, skill level and artistic ability to have a go at painting their very own board. More surfers than ever before are painting their boards today and feeling the rewards that come with.

If you have anyone in mind that might suit an Interview from SurfPaints please reach out by responding to this email. I would love to hear!!!

Have the best day & remember to Make It Your Own, Danny
