Cute Animal Doughnut Lollipops

Shared from Wilton blog

These mini doughnuts are possibly too cute to eat and so much fun to make. Perfect to make with the kids, get everyone dipping and decorating these tasty bite sized treats. After all, everyone loves doughnuts! Especially candy covered ones.

Ingredients:

  • Baked Doughnut Recipe
  • Candy Melts: Bright White, Pink, Vibrant Green, Light Cocoa, Turquoise
  • Sprinkles
  • Trex (for candy melts)
  • Candy eyeballs small
  • Red and Blue candy melt food colouring
STEP 1
Bake and cool doughnuts.
STEP 2
Prepare the lollipops: Melt and prepare the white candy melts as per packet instructions. Use a lollipop stick to make a small hole at the bottom of each doughnut. Do not push all the way through to the middle. Dip a lollipop stick into the melted candy melts and reinsert back into the hole. Leave flat to set on a baking tray in the fridge. Repeat with all the doughnuts and keep refrigerated until needed.
STEP 3
Frogs eyes: Prepare the vibrant green candy melts in the silicone melting bottle. On a parchment lined tray, pipe small dots of green about 7 mm wide. Pop an eyeball into the centre of each dot. Pipe sets of eyes and leave to set in the fridge.
STEP 4
Teddy’s ears and bow tie: Prepare the light cocoa and blue candy melts in separate silicone melting bottles. On a parchment lined tray pipe small dots with the light cocoa about 5 mm wide, each dot is an ear so you will need to pipe sets. Use the blue to pipe small bow ties, two inter-joining triangles with a small dot in the middle. These will need to be about 1 cm wide. Leave to set in the fridge.
STEP 5
Dipping the doughnuts: In a small bowl melt and prepare the required colour for the doughnut: green for frogs, cocoa for the bears, and pink, white or cocoa for the doughnuts. Take the doughnut lollipops a few at a time from the fridge to prevent them becoming soft too quick. Dip each one, one at a time, into the chosen colour of candy melt. Gently tap off excess coating by tapping the stick on the side of the bowl. For the Frogs, Place the eyes on the top of the doughnut before the coating sets, you may need to hold in place for a few moments. Repeat the same for the Teddy bears with their ears and bow ties. Leave to set on a decorating stand, polystyrene block or flat on a tray in the fridge.
STEP 6
Decorating the doughnuts: Colour a small amount of the melted light cocoa with red and blue until you achieve a dark brown. Fill a small piping bag with this darker mix and pipe the Teddy bears eyes and Frogs eyes and mouth onto each doughnut.Using either pink, white or light cocoa candy melts, prepare in the silicone melting bottles. Pipe ‘frosting’ design onto the doughnuts and the bottom of the frogs. Decorate with sprinkles and leave to set in the fridge.
